WHEREAS, the mission of the Pittsburgh School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) is to provide the highest quality education in an atmosphere that nurtures the individual artistic talent of each student and the purpose of the Friends of CAPA is to support the projects and programs associated with current and former students; and,
WHEREAS, the Friends of CAPA will be sponsoring a benefit at the Hard Rock Café which will feature Chris Garver, world renowned tattoo artist and television personality; and,
WHEREAS, Chris Garver, born and raised in Pittsburgh and a 1988 graduate of CAPA, is the youngest of three brothers whose artist mother encouraged his interest in painting and drawing. First experimenting with tattooing at the age of 17 , Chris took one year of art school and then apprenticed before he starting tattooing clients on his own; and,
WHEREAS, Chris Garver became a full time professional tattoo artist, having traveled the world and living for a time in Japan where he was tattooed by famous Japanese Irezumi artists as well as by a Buddhist monk in Thailand before returning to the United States and establishing himself as one of the country's foremost tattoo artists, known for some of the best work in the industry of body ink; and,
WHEREAS, Chris Garver is a featured tattoo artist on the TLC reality television program, Miami Ink, as well doing commercial illustration and currently working on a children's clothing line.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Friends of CAPA for their unending support and commitment to the current and former students of the school and congratulates Chris Garver for his achievements in the arts ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, March 2, 2009 to be "CHRIS GARVER DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
