WHEREAS, Mike Nichols lives in the neighborhood of Bloomfield in the City of Pittsburgh, and devotes much of his energy to helping others both within and outside of his own community; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Nichols has served communities within Pittsburgh for almost 30 years through his work for the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Nichols has volunteered to read to children in Pittsburgh Public Schools, including Philips, Arlington, King, and Allegheny, for 25 years, with plans to continue for as long as he can; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Nichols volunteers at Hill House and Homewood Senior Centers in his free time outside of work and other voluntary endeavors due to his love for the City of Pittsburgh and its people; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Nichols has been tragically affected by the loss of his son to sickle cell anemia, but uses his energy to improve the lives of other people, especially through his involvement with the Sickle Cell Foundation; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Nichols is grateful to Allegheny Health Network for helping him to live a fulfilling life through the removal of his prostate cancer. Mike is an integral part of the neighborhoods, Pittsburgh Public Schools, and Department of Public Works, and his contributions to the City of Pittsburgh are invaluable. Mike has dedicated his life to service, and he has impacted the health and imaginations of many children within the City of Pittsburgh and beyond; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh thanks Mike Nichols for all of his contributions, and looks forward to many more years of his involvement in the City; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 to be “Mike Nichols Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
