• Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh applauds the efforts and contributions of Persad Center; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 12, 2008, "Celebrate Art, Celebrate Life Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Persad Center has been supporting and aiding the community for over thirty years, since its founding in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Persad Center is the nation's second-oldest licensed counseling center, specifically aimed at helping the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community; and,

WHEREAS,  Persad Center is committed to helping LGBT and HIV-positive individuals, their families, and their friends, with a staff of mental health professionals trained to respond to the needs of the LGBT community and increase the well-being of all its members; and

WHEREAS, on May 12 2008, Persad Center will hold the 20^th Reunion Tour of Celebrate Life, Celebrate Art; and

WHEREAS, Celebrate Life, Celebrate Art is an art auction featuring the work of over 200 regional, national, and international artists in order to raise funds to care for those infected by AIDS and their friends and families.
