WHEREAS, BikePGH works to protect cyclist's rights and promote the vision of making Pittsburgh a safer and more enjoyable place to live and to ride; and
WHEREAS, BikePGH partners with local stakeholders to raise awareness about urban environmental issues, elevating the public discourse and working to improve our City's urban design and public health; and
WHEREAS, in the past year alone, BikePGH has been instrumental in installing new bicycle lanes citywide, ensuring that all Port Authority buses are outfitted with bike racks, and launching the Car Free Calculator, which helps citizens learn the environmental benefits of bicycling and works to reduce automobile dependency; and
WHEREAS, this year, BikePGH is celebrating ten years of remarkable achievements, including the proliferation of bike lanes citywide, the creation of a Bike/Ped Coordinator position within City government, and more than doubling the number of bike commuters in the City; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, June 28, BikePGH will host the Bike Pittsburgh Annual Members Meeting and Awards Event to commemorate their anniversary and to provide an update on the state of bicycling in the City.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate BikePGH on its decade of excellent work on behalf of the City's bicyclists; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 28, 2012 to be "BikePGH Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
