WHEREAS, MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni is one of the oldest architectural firms in the country; and in 1889, Edward Stotz, a confident and determined young man, opened the architectural office in the City of Pittsburgh to begin changing the face of the city, and;
WHEREAS, Edward Stotz, who had never attended college or acquired any formal architectural training, wrote specifications and blueprints for his designs by hand each night next to a gas lamp, and;
WHEREAS, Edward Stotz and his colleagues changed the way buildings look in America; and created new standards for the practice of architecture, by developing the American Institute of Architects and developing codes to make buildings safer, and;
WHEREAS, MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni are institutional architects who have designed over 2,500 structures since its' beginning in 1889, and has included projects to design hospitals, theaters, schools and colleges, laboratories, offices, and residences, as well as bringing architectural beauty and grandeur to the Pittsburgh in the form of such landmarks as the fountain at Point State Park, Heinz Hall, the Benedum Center, the Byham, and the Creative and Performing Arts High School, and;
WHEREAS, MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni is the architectural firm founded on the Stotzes' integrity, tradition, and passion for building well; the firm is celebrating its 125th year of building beautiful buildings in the City of Pittsburgh and around the country.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 16, 2014 to be "MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
