WHEREAS, through her participation in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Lacee Ecker transformed the life of her Little Sister, Janiyah, by offering academic and personal support; and,
WHEREAS, her mentoring relationship with Janiyah included tutoring, bowling, horseback riding, sharing meals, and offering advice; and,
WHEREAS, as one of four siblings raised in a single-parent household, Janiyah did not always have access to this kind of enrichment and guidance otherwise; and,
WHEREAS, through the help of Ms. Ecker, Janiyah was able to improve her academic performance, enjoy new experiences, and develop conflict resolution skills; and,
WHEREAS, motivated by Ms. Ecker’s encouragement, Janiyah enrolled in a challenging high school so she can achieve her professional dreams; and,
WHEREAS, every child deserves to feel safe, cared for, and respected, and should be given ample opportunities to enjoy life and realize their potential; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Ecker is a model of the Big Brothers Big Sisters vision, exemplifying the values of patience, support, and positive outcomes for children; and,
WHEREAS, as President of the Young Professional Outreach Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ms. Ecker led an ambitious fundraising effort, exceeding the target by $15,000.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the significant impact of Ms. Lacee Ecker’s involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 to be “Lacee Ecker Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
