Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks the Silver Eye Center for Photography, the exhibition curators, and all of the participating photojournalists for their creativity and talent in encapsulating culture and life in Pittsburgh; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLIVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Tuesday, May 3, 2005 "Pittsburgh NOW Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh has a rich history as the home of many brilliant photographers, including, Lewis Hine, W. Eugene Smith, Charles "Teenie" Harris, Margaret Bourke-White, and many others; and
 
WHEREAS, the Silver Eye Center for Photography is introducing a new generation of Pittsburgh photojournalists with the Pittsburgh NOW exhibit on view from April 13 - August 20, 2005 at the Silver Eye Center for Photography at 1015 East Carson Street; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh NOW is a new exhibition of nine photojournalists that have captured on film Pittsburgh in all its aspects, including images ranging from Easter service at Ebenezer Baptist Church to war protestors at Regent Square; and
 
WHEREAS, co-curators Linda Benedict-Jones and Henry Simonds have included photographs by Steven Adams, Lake Fong, Rob Long, Heather Mull, Ken Neely, Annie O'Neill, Carrie Schneider, Dylan Vitone, and William Wade; and
 
WHEREAS, co-curator Henry Simonds expresses the importance of this exhibit through his words that, "Now that we have taken our first tentative steps into the 21st Century, perhaps it is time that we leave our past behind and preserve our vanishing present to both inform current discussions and be a record for the future."
