WHEREAS, students of the Pittsburgh Public Schools have been blessed with 'Hammer Hugs' for 37 wonderful years; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Hammer has taught at Holmes Elementary and Phillips Elementary and has served as an ITL; a member of the Parent School Community Council; and
WHEREAS, during her time as a teacher, Mrs. Hammer has served as a substitute teacher; taught a third and fourth grade split, fifth grade, sixth grade and most recently second grade; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hammer has helped to develop the rules PRESENT, PROMPT, PREPARED, and POLITE; helped to write and develop a river curriculum; and co-authored a second grade spelling book; and
WHEREAS, during her time as a teacher Kathy Hammer has become a mother to Michael and Andrew and a grandmother to Halle, Casey and Eli; and
WHEREAS, now that she is retired, she will spend more time: with her family and grandchildren in Pittsburgh and North Carolina; organizing her house; relaxing and traveling and volunteering in classroom with small groups of students;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Tuesday, June 3, 2008 as Kathy Hammer Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
