WHEREAS, Thursday, April 1, 2004 began as usual at the St. James Deaconess Personal Care Home; and

WHEREAS, before 12:00 noon, the tranquility of St. James Deaconess Personal Care Home would change.  A fire in the bedroom of a resident would soon cause fright and chaos to the seniors; and

WHEREAS, it was the quick wit and natural instincts of Mrs. Cherene Davis, an employee of St. James Deaconess Personal Care Home to evacuate and secure the seniors from the facility, then she began to fight the blaze; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis unselfishly put her own life at risk to save the lives of others.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends Mrs. Cherene Davis for her heroism and bravery on April 1, 2004.
