WHEREAS, Ronald Romano, Chief of Emergency Medical Services, celebrates his 45th year with the City of Pittsburgh on March 27, 2023; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the Forbes Health System Paramedic Program, Mr. Romano began his EMS career in 1975 with Perman Ambulance Service in Pittsburgh. In March, 1978, he was hired as a Paramedic with the City of Pittsburgh, by then Director Glenn Cannon; and,
WHEREAS, after working on the Northside at Medic-4 for two years, he was promoted to Crew Chief and spent five years at Medic-3 in the West End and a little over two years at Medic 13, which has since been taken out of service; and,
WHEREAS, in 1988, Ronald was promoted to Field Supervisor rank and later changed to District Chief. In February, 2005 he advanced to the rank of Division Chief of the Ambulance Division and as such also handled all EMS planning for major events being held in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Romano was promoted to Deputy Chief of EMS in March 2016 and sworn in by Mayor Peduto as the 7th Chief of Pittsburgh EMS in October 2018; and,
WHEREAS, during Chief Romano’s tenure, he oversaw the Bureau during the Tree of Life shooting in 2018, Fern Hollow Bridge collapse in 2022 and three years of a worldwide pandemic; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Chief Ronald Romano for his 45 years of service to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 to be “Chief Ronald Romano Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
