Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledge The Brother's Brother Foundation for its outstanding charitable commitment, donor dependency, fundraising efficiency, and overall dedication to humanity.

WHEREAS, The Brother's Brother Foundation, a 47-year old Pittsburgh-based international charity, began in 1958 as a dream of a few to help the many around the world who lack good healthcare, education and nutrition. Its ongoing mission is to "Connect People's Resources with People's Needs"; and

WHEREAS, From the beginning its founder and leading spirit, Robert A. Hingson, M.D., urged that BBF's resources be shared with local counterpart organizations in developing countries who shared the common desire help those in need; and

WHEREAS, In its 47 year history, BBF has helped people in over 120 countries, working through and in partnership with local agencies that want to help their own people; and

WHEREAS, The Brother's Brother Foundation, in collaboration with Operation USA and Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh, with donations from Watson and King Pharmaceutical Companies and respirators from Mine Safety Appliances (MSA), has sent more than $8 million in requested supplies, consisting of 151,000 bottles of medicine, to the survivors of the tsunami floods in South Asia; and

WHEREAS, $20,000,000 in additional pharmaceuticals have been offered and are being selected by local health authorities in each country. BBF anticipates working in the countries recovering from the tsunami for many months to come. Designated tsunami relief funds not used to provide logistical support for donated goods will be used to help rebuild houses, schools, and clinics; and

WHEREAS, BBF has provided over $1.4 billion of medical supplies, textbooks, food, seeds, and other humanitarian supplies to people around the world in over 120 countries; and

WHEREAS, Forbes Magazine, the national business periodical, listed Brother's Brother Foundation as the only charity to receive 100% and/or higher rating in a special issue, 2005 investment guide charity, Monday, December 13, 2004;
