WHEREAS, Dr. Bobby Jones is a television producer and host of “Bobby Jones Gospel”. Bobby Jones Gospel is the highest rated and longest running television show on BET (Black Entertainment Television Network). “Bobby Jones Gospel” is also the longest running show in the history of cable television; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Jones completed high school by the age of 15. He completed his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree from Tennessee State University. He received his Doctorate of Education from Vanderbilt University and his Doctorate of Theology from Payne’s Theological Seminary; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Jones has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1983 he received a Grammy Award and Dove Award for the song "I'm So Glad I'm Standing Here Today". In 1996, he received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” at the Stellar Awards. In 2001, he received a citation from President Bush titled “Revolutionized the Gospel Music Industry”. In 2003 Tom Joyner presented him with the “Hardest Working Man” award, just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Jones is on the Board of Directors of the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame, member of the NAACP and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He is the current host of “Bobby Jones Next Generation”, “Bobby Jones Presents” on The Impact Television Network and 2 radio broadcasts on the Sheridan Gospel Network: “The Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown” and “The Bobby Jones Radio Show”; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Jones brings his Legacy Tour to the City of Pittsburgh on August 21, 2015.; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and honor Dr. Bobby Jones on his many accomplishments in television and radio; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, August 21 , 2015, to be “Dr. Bobby Jones Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
