WHEREAS, throughout the United States, more than 600,000 individuals return to the community from prisons annually and, in Pennsylvania, over 150,000 individuals are under probation and parole supervision each year; and,
WHEREAS, the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) links returning citizens with transitional employment offering daily pay and help to obtain permanent positions, as well as job training and other services that help them overcome barriers to economic success; and,
WHEREAS, Center for Employment Opportunities has worked with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, and Pittsburgh City Council, to provide transitional employment for justice-impacted community members and returning citizens through contracted and volunteer opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, since CEO’s Pittsburgh location opened in 2016, it has enrolled more than 500 participants, had over 300 job placements, and currently works with more than 50 local employers.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday January 22nd, 2025, to be “Center for Employment Opportunities Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
