WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Glass Center located in the Friendship area is hosting Meltdown 2005, Pittsburgh Glass Center's fifth annual benefit and auction, Saturday, September 24, 2005 ; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Glass Center is the fastest growing public access glass facility in the USA. A nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching, creating and promoting glass art; and
WHEREAS, the 16,000 plus square foot facility, located in the East End urban arts neighborhood of Friendship/Garfield, houses state of the art studios in hot glass, flameworking, coldworking, casting and kilnworking ; and
WHEREAS, the staff of skilled administrators, glass artist, technicians and highly qualified and motivating instructors all work together to create an open environment where the beginner to the advanced student can explore and achieve his or her creative vision in glass; and
WHEREAS, students and artists totaling more than 1,000 from 35 states and eight foreign countries have enrolled in classes at Pittsburgh Glass Center since it opened in 2001.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Pittsburgh Glass Center for their contribution to the world of art in the unique glass making industry.
