WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women (NJCW) has been actively providing community services to all residents of Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1894; and
WHEREAS, over the past century, the Pittsburgh Section of NCJW has worked to create and lead Headstart, Job Corps, the Race for the Cure, the Silent Witness Initiative, and the Jane B. Lobl Family Court Waiting Room; and
WHEREAS, in the past year, the Pittsburgh Section of NCJW has organized Batch Packs for Kids, the Thriftique Shop Project, tutoring at local schools, and efforts to renew the Voters Rights Act of 1965; and
WHEREAS, the NCJW will kick-off the 2006 Rachel Porter Social Action Fund Program by hosting political strategist Donna Brazile; and
WHEREAS, people from across the region are invited to join the NCJW and Donna Brazile on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the Eddy Theater at Chatham College to discuss the future of women in political life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Pittsburgh Section of the National Council of Jewish Women for their dedication to the people of our community and the betterment of our City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares, Tuesday, September 12, 2006 "National Council of Jewish Women Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
