WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Dorsey’s Record Shop with their Community Service Leadership Award and,
WHEREAS, Dorsey’s Record Shop, located on Frankstown Avenue in Homewood, opened its doors as Dorsey Radio in 1946. Neil Dorsey, the current owner who inherited the company from his father, now runs it with his son, Marcus. Having made a name for itself as an African American business that survived 5 economic downturns and the 1968 riots, the Dorsey Record Shop has adapted over the years from vinyl records sales to television repair to a state of the art digital imaging business as well as computer repair and music sales; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to seven decades of business success through strategic planning, the Dorseys are known for decades of giving back to their community through quality and affordable sales, community service and countless contributions made to non-profit organizations, all to further their mission to help the low income communities of Pittsburgh; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Dorsey Record Shop and Neil and Marcus Dorsey for their remarkable contributions through their family owned business and congratulates them on receiving the Nabhi Christian Ministries Community Service Leadership Award.
