Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby commend Marilyn L. McKinney for her years of service to the community as a devoted and exceptionally skilled educator of children and for her leadership of numerous community and non-profit organizations. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, declares Wednesday, June 30th, 2004 "Marilyn McKinney Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, After more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Marilyn L. McKinney will be retiring and there will be a recognition dinner honoring her at the Rivers Club on the 30th of June the year 2004; and
 
WHEREAS, Marilyn L. McKinney has directly and dramatically effected the lives of countless children, most of whom face extraordinary difficulties, by teaching them the invaluable ability to more fully utilize their talented minds; and    
 
WHEREAS, Marilyn McKinney, who has spent a quarter of a century as an administrator in the Pittsburgh school system, work to develop and implement school policy in Pittsburgh, the state, and the nation as a whole and has done so with repeated success; and
 
WHEREAS, Marilyn McKinney currently holds the position as Program Officer for Students with Exceptionalities requires that she find ways to educate those who would otherwise be left disadvantaged in their schooling and therefore in their lives; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to improving Pittsburgh Public Schools, Marilyn McKinney serves as the elected Secretary of the Pittsburgh Branch of the NAACP for six years, the President of the Greater Pittsburgh Alliance of Black School Educators for two years, and on the Board of Managers for the Kingsley Association, Freedom Unlimited, and the Center Avenue YMCA.  All these are groups and organizations that strive to make a better and more equitable society in which we all live.
