WHEREAS, the 2008 theme for Older Americans Month is "Working Together for Strong, Healthy and Supportive Communities"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh fosters supportive communities through one of the largest and most customer focused active and healthy aging programs through the staffing of the city's 15 Senior Community Centers; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Brown, of the Market House Senior Center, demonstrated the dedication, caring and compassion of the very best of these employees, on November 14, 2007; and
WHEREAS, on that date Mrs. Eleanor Jesionowski did not attend the activities at the Center for the second day in a row and had not attended the dinner the night before; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Brown recognized this as highly irregular behavior for Mrs. Jesionowski, Cheryl went to Mrs. Jesionowski's home to check on her and found mail and newspapers from Saturday and immediately phoned 911; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Brown called out to Mrs. Jesionowski and assured her that help was on the way and stayed there until the police and rescue unit arrived, broke into the house and found her on the floor where she had been for days and cared for her and transported her to UPMC South Side; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the great dedication and compassion of Cheryl Brown, and other staff members of the city's Senior Community Centers, and commends Cheryl Brown for exemplifying the essence of creating a supportive community ;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim May 20, 2008 as Cheryl Brown Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
