Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Conroy Funeral Home for their 75th Anniversary and commend them for providing family-centered services to assist in celebrating the memory of loved ones while caring for each family member with the same respect and dignity they would have afforded their own family in time of need; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 7, 2015, to be "Conroy Funeral Home Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the William F. Conroy Funeral Home, located at 2944 Chartiers Avenue, was founded by Mr. William F. Conroy, Sr. on July 4, 1940 with a desire to serve families with care and compassion during their time of loss; and,

WHEREAS, William Conroy, Sr. married Laura Kuntz in 1936 and operated the funeral home together while raising two children, Lynn and Bill, in the residence above the funeral home; after Mr. Conroy's death in 1946, Laura Conroy continued to operate the business on a widows license; and,

WHEREAS, Bill Conroy, Jr. took over the funeral home in honor of his father in 1964; after he completed his term in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958, he entered the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science graduating with high honors in 1962 and received a BS in Business Administration from Duquesne University in 1963; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his schooling, he volunteered his services as a past board member and Treasurer of Allegheny Co. Funeral Directors Association, past president, secretary and treasurer of Kiwanis Club of Sheraden and Kiwanian of the Year in 1971 and 1973 and past member of Parish Council of Ascension Roman Catholic Church in Ingram and Holy Innocents Church in Sheraden; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Conroy's commitment to the community goes far beyond his own business as evident when they purchased a building across the street at 2927 Chartiers Avenue with the intentions of selling it to another business owner in order for them to get up and running faster; the sale took place in September, 2014 and is now the home of a successful consulting firm and a local artist who is providing programming for the community.; and,

WHEREAS, in 1996, Conroy Funeral home added Mr. Patrick M. McGowan to their compassionate staff and he became a full partner in 1997; He is a an adjunct instructor at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science where he teaches Funeral Home Management and Clinical Embalming along with being a member of the Am...
