WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh High School Ultimate League (PHUL) will hold their annual Youth Scholarship Benefit on June 4, 2009; and
WHEREAS, PHUL supports ultimate frisbee in the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, PHUL was founded in Spring 2001 and has tripled in size over the past four years, and now has over 50 teams participating, and annually provides the youth scholarship; and
WHEREAS, ultimate frisbee fosters a growth in balancing competitive spirit and intense competition in men and women in middle school and high school; and
WHEREAS, PHUL will award a $1000 scholarship over four years to one student athlete in PHUL who displays athletic excellence in the sport, excels academically, and demonstrates good leadership and citizenship.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the benefits of the Pittsburgh High School Ultimate League Youth Scholarship presented by the PHUL, and thanks the organization for providing this experience to the City's youth; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 4, 2009, "Pittsburgh High School Ultimate League Day," in the City of Pittsburgh.
