Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends Thomas Reiser, Chris Deasy, Jeff Roscoe and Kenneth Farnan for their years of duty, sacrifice and dedication and honors them for the devotion they gave to their country.

WHEREAS, the Police Athletic League is proud to honor four outstanding men at the Western Pennsylvania finals of the state Golden Gloves Tournament on April 22, 2008; and  
 
WHEREAS, Thomas Reiser, Chris Deasy, Jeff Roscoe and Kenneth Farnan, all boxers from Western Pennsylvania, joined the Marines and continued to box; and  
 
WHEREAS, these four men were serving in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 as part of a peacekeeping mission when two acts of terrorism occurred; and  
 
WHEREAS, Thomas Reiser was part of the recovery effort after a suicide bomber attacked the United States Embassy in Beirut, killing 63 people, including 17 Americans on April 18, 1983; and  
 
WHEREAS, Chris Deasy, Jeff Roscoe and Kenneth Farnan were all near the Marine barracks at the Beirut Airport on October 23, 1983, when a suicide bomber ran a truck filled with explosives into their barracks and killed 220 Marines and 21 other United States service members; and
 
WHEREAS, through the chaos of these attacks, these four men cited their boxing experience and training as helping them to get through the aftermath and turmoil of the terror attacks.
