WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Professional Women (PPW), a community resource organization that helps women in Western PA succeed in life and business, turned 15 in May, 2020, however their celebration was postponed due to COVID 19; and,

WHEREAS, amid this challenging and stressful time for small businesses and entrepreneurs, the organization’s Online Learning Center has been made available to the public during the pandemic, and made all virtual workshops free and open to the public during the months of April and May, and numerous events remain free through the end of the year; and
WHEREAS, many of these workshops touched upon COVID-19 related topics, such as How to Apply for PPP/SBA Loans and Grants, how to Manage Your Business Remotely in Times of Uncertainty, and Influential and Motivational Leadership Through Crisis, just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, in April, founder and Executive Director Beth Caldwell was interviewed by Michelle Wright on WTAE where she shared encouraging tips for people who want to start a business during the COVID-19 Pandemic; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Caldwell has not only impacted the region with workshops hosted by the organization, she is the author of ten books and is a popular columnist in publications and blogs including The Pittsburgh Business Times, Smart Business Magazine and THRIVE Global; and,
WHEREAS, due to their approach, Pittsburgh Awards Program gave them the award for Best of Pittsburgh in the category of Professional Development for Women during the Pandemic; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Professional Women for their service to small businesses and entrepreneurs and support during this COVID-19 Pandemic; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, July 28, 2020 to be “Pittsburgh Professional Women Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
