Resolution authorizing the Director of Public Safety and the Chief of Police to enter into contract(s) and/or agreement(s) with SST, Incorporated for the purpose of installing gunshot-detection hardware and software in the City of Pittsburgh. Cost not to exceed $150,000.

Whereas, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police can become a more effective police Department by investing in Technology; and,
Whereas, investing in ShotSpotter Technology will decrease response times and allow for more effective deployment of the Bureau's scarce resources; and,
Whereas, agencies that have adopted ShotSpotter Technology as part of a comprehensive crime-reduction strategy have reported reductions in urban gunfire by up to 80% and related violent crime by as much as 40%.
Whereas, ShotSpotter Technology will provide real-time information to Pittsburgh's Bureau of Police about gunfire and explosions, enabling a more effective response to gun violence.
Whereas ShotSpotter Technology will provide the Bureau of Police a constant, 360-degree wide-area acoustic surveillance of complex urban areas.
Whereas, ShotSpotter Technology can deliver instant, accurate tactical awareness to the Bureau of Police including precise location anywhere within coverage area including latitude/longitude and street address, exact time and number of rounds fired and shooter position, speed and direction of travel.
Whereas, ShotSpotter Technology will provide incident data and forensic data to the Bureau of Police including: sequence of rounds fired with time and position data, type or types of weapons used and number of weapons or shooters.
Whereas, ShotSpotter Technology features built-in interoperability using standards-based communications protocols to share data across systems, roles and other agencies for a streamlined and coordinated response to all critical events.
