Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pride for its diligent work in increasing the awareness of the LGBT community and promoting the diversity of the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of June 2012 to be the “Pittsburgh Pride Month” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh is to increase awareness and understanding of and improve the quality of life for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region; and
WHEREAS, the Delta Foundation leads the celebration of Pittsburgh Pride 2012, from June 1 through 10, 2012; and
 
WHEREAS, the purpose of celebrating Pittsburgh Pride is to recognize the events of the New York City Stonewall uprising of 1969 which is generally regarding as the beginning of the movement for basic human rights; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride started as a one-day event consisting of a parade and festival and has grow to a 10-day celebration with over 70,000 participants consisting of events that promote the diversity of the Pittsburgh region, and,
WHEREAS, major corporations including, but not limited to, UPMC, Highmark, PNC Bank, ALCOA, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, CCAC, Clear Channel, Coors Light, Direct Energy, FedEx Ground, Giant Eagle, Google, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and PPG, have come together and provided the resources necessary to produce events for the entire Pittsburgh region to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Pride consists of major events including the Advocacy Rally, Pub Crawl, the Pride Awareness March, PrideFest, and Pride in the Street featuring the Grammy and Academy Award winner Melissa Etheridge; and
