WHEREAS, on March 15, 2012, at the City-County Building, Council President Harris first met Peking University Elementary School Principal, Yin Chao and Assistant Principal, Gao Chen on their visit to the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, covering an area of 24,800 square meters, Peking University Elementary School is regarded as a "garden of learning" for its almost 2000 students; and
WHEREAS, the primary school attached to Peking University was founded in 1906 and designated as a National Key Primary School in 1952; and
WHEREAS, this award-winning elementary school, for Model Primary School and Advanced Primary School, serves as a core, representative model school for the GKE China Membership Alliance; and
WHEREAS, Peking University Elementary School is proud of its beautiful ecological garden, where students and teachers can truly enjoy the rich culture, relax and put their souls at ease; and
WHEREAS, the school is celebrating its 60th anniversary of its current location on the campus of the University of Peking; and
WHEREAS, in September 2012, the Peking University Elementary School will be sending 35 students to the U.S. for four weeks where they will attend classes at Winchester-Thurston and visit local sites to foster the interchange of culture, technology, education and tourism; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important milestone of the Peking University Elementary School, and does hereby declare Friday, June 15, 2012, to be "Peking University Elementary School 60th Anniversary Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
