WHEREAS, Pittsburgh has 88 unique neighborhoods with tremendous cultural assets, but these communities are being overrun with litter on the streets and sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh is committed to being part of the solution and not the problem; by empowering city residents with the ability to take back our streets and revitalize each and every one of Pittsburgh's neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Shadyside resident Boris Weinstein recognized the growing litter problem in his neighborhood and took action as a dedicated member of our community, spending up to two hours a day cleaning up litter throughout Shadyside; and
WHEREAS, he has split Shadyside into 17 zones that require only 3 volunteers per zone, or 51 total volunteers to clean-up all of Shadyside, and he just recently signed-on 25 more volunteers for the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein's commitment to cleaning up the community is contagious and he has already recruited over 20 volunteers to work on a similar neighborhood campaign to clean up Squirrel Hill.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Boris Weinstein for his commitment to creating a clean Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Tuesday, September 20, 2005, "Pittsburghers Clean-Up Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
