Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Betsy Schwartz for her years of commitment and enthusiasm to the Oakland neighborhood and the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 3, 2008, “Watermelon Blues Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, 29 years ago Trish Taylor opened Watermelon Blues as an antique shop at 311 South Craig Street; and
 
WHEREAS, as a then part-time employee Betsy Schwartz purchased Watermelon Blues 24 years ago, and expanded the merchandise to encompass fun and extraordinary gift items for everyone; and
 
WHEREAS, for 15 years, Betsy Schwartz served her community as the president of the Public Safety Committee, and as president and co-president of the South Craig Street Association; and
 
WHEREAS, on February 15, 2008, Watermelon Blues closed its doors for the last time, after years of providing unique gifts and loyal services to dedicated patrons.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Betsy Schwartz for her years of commitment and enthusiasm to the Oakland neighborhood and the City of Pittsburgh.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares June 3, 2008, "Watermelon Blues Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
