Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 5, 2012 to be “Center on Race and Social Problems Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Center on Race and Social Problems at The University of Pittsburgh is celebrating their 10th anniversary on June 7, 2012 at the Alumni Hall, an event which is free and open to the public; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Center on Race and Social Problems is a program that was established by current director Larry E. Davis at the University of Pittsburgh to conduct race-related research and teach tomorrow's scholars; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Center on Race and Social Problems focuses on race-related problems in the areas of educational and economic disparities, health, interracial group relations, mental health, youth, families, and the elderly, and criminal justice; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Center on Race and Social Problems fulfills the informational needs of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, accommodates the community with data and technical assistance, holds specialized studies on current issues, and disseminates their research conclusions; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Center educates, trains and mentors scholars from the undergraduate to the postdoctoral level, and offers the opportunity for citizens willing to participate to use the Center's seminars and conferences to obtain information or to join in dialogue on race-related issues;
