WHEREAS, historic preservation is a valuable resource for Americans committed to celebrating our heritage while encouraging sustainable development, vibrant neighborhoods, and reduced sprawl; and
WHEREAS, historic preservation is critical for the success of our city's revitalization and may foster the civic spirit necessary for another renaissance; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate the role of history in our lives during May, National Preservation Month, and honor the awardees of the 2006 Preservation Awards; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Review Commission will host the Preservation Awards on Friday, May 5th in City Council Chambers; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May2, 2006 "Historic Preservation Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
