Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of City Planning to enter into an Agreement in individual amounts of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) or less with visual artists, designers, or creative collectives with specialized skills in Public Art and Creative Placemaking for the creation and installation of the second phase of the Art in Parks Program in six neighborhood parks: Mutual Park, Pauline Park, Eleanor Park, Lewis Park, Larimer Park and Catalano Park, at a cost not to exceed Fifty Thousand ($50,000) Dollars for the program.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of City Planning includes a Public Art + Civic Design division, that seeks to introduce new and innovative public art programs around the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh's Public Art Plan provides a vision for how public art will be created, maintained, and displayed in the City of Pittsburgh for the next decade and calls for the integration of art into the "built environment" as an element of urban and building design as a means of reinforcing public gathering places, infrastructure, neighborhoods, and communities; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art and Civic Design Division from the Department of City Planning led the Art in Parks Pilot Revolving Program on behalf of the Department of Public Works and CitiParks; and
WHEREAS, in the Fall of 2018, the Public Art and Civic Design Division coordinated and managed the artists for the implementation of the first phase - pilot - of the Art in Parks program; and
WHEREAS, the Public Art and Civic Design Division worked in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and the artists in the creation of small scale installations of temporary works of art; and
WHEREAS, the first phase - pilot - of the program was completed in September 2018; and
