WHEREAS, the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for individuals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers; and
WHEREAS, during the four to six week program, the team members stay with Rotary host families, make presentations about their home country and professions and visit their host country's local businesses, government offices, community organizations and historical sites; and
WHEREAS, team members participate in vocational experiences to learn about the practices in their professional field in the host country; and
WHEREAS, this month, a GSE team from Norway will spend four weeks visiting the Pittsburgh area; and
WHEREAS, those team members are:
· Torolf Kvello
· John Petter Valstad
· Erling Aunet
· Hanna Lauvas
· Beate Daleng Hoydalsvik
· Bente Hansen Steen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh welcomes the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange team from Norway and thanks the Rotary Foundation for sponsoring an opportunity for individuals from different cultures to meet and learn from each other; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 12th, 2009, "Rotary Foundation GSE Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
