WHEREAS, Dr. Selma Feldman Witchel was born and raised in Pittsburgh and educated at Taylor Allderdice High School, Oberlin College and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, with Post Graduate work at the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel is a world renowned, Board-certified Pediatric Endocrinologist who is widely published and the recipient of many recognitions, awards, and honors; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel has served as the President of the Androgen Excess-PCOS society and currently serves as the Director of the Pediatric Endocrine Society Board; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel served as the Director of the Pediatric Endocrine Fellowship at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for over 15 years; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel has been and continues to be an active part of numerous other study boards, editorial boards, and committee; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel is an exemplary leader, inspiring mentor, phenomenal educator and more importantly a warm and kind person who goes above and beyond in the care of her patients; and,
WHEREAS, in her retirement, she still sees her long-time patients with adrenal disorders, differences of sex development, disorders of puberty and several other endocrine disorders including care of individuals for their gender health; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Witchel is married to Steve Steingart and is the mother of two adult children, Dr. Jessica Christian who is married to her husband Dr. Michael Christian, and Michael Siegel who is married to his wife Mari Siegel; and,
WHEREAS, she is the proud Grandmother of Asher Christian and Emery Siegel and Granddog Ollie; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburgh commends Dr. Witchel for her significant contributions to the field of pediatric endocrinology and for her unwavering commitment to her patients; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 18, 2023 to be "Dr. Selm...
