WHEREAS, The Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, is an annual marathon footrace held on the first Sunday in May in Pittsburgh. A spectacular event attracting more than 25,000 people, the Pittsburgh Marathon offers a full marathon, a half marathon, a Marathon Relay , a Kids Marathon and a program for youth called Kids of Steel ; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Minadeo is a K-5 Elementary School who for the past three years has participated in the Kids of Steel and Kids Marathon and is the only school team participating this year from the Pittsburgh School District; and,
WHEREAS, The "Minadeo Marathoners" are one of numerous school teams from around the region participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon. The Kids Marathon encourages children to be active and eat well. The 38 children from the Minadeo community are expected to run 25.2 miles over the course of 14 weeks beginning in January with the last mile run on Saturday, May 3, 2014, crossing the same finish line as the adult marathon the next day; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate the "Minadeo Marathoners" on their commitment to healthy living and their dedication to their school and their team ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 3, 2014, to be "MINADEO MARATHONERS DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
