WHEREAS, Richard V. Piacentini has served as President and CEO of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens since 1994; and,
WHEREAS, he has led the remarkable buildout and green transformation of Phipps Conservatory, including the construction of its renowned Center for Sustainable Landscapes, the world’s only building to meet Living Building Challenge™, LEED® Platinum, SITES™ Platinum, Zero Energy, WELL™ Platinum, BREEAM® Outstanding In-Use, and Fitwel® 3 Star certifications; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Piacentini’s pacesetting work has centered on ways to enhance human and environmental health by connecting people with plants and nature; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Piacentini has served on numerous boards, including leadership roles with the American Public Gardens Association and the International Living Future Institute; and,
WHEREAS, Phipps has received more than 139 awards for professional excellence under Mr. Piacentini’s leadership; and,
WHEREAS, a lunch honoring Mr. Piacentini’s 30 years leading Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is to be held on Monday, July 8th, 2024.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 8, 2024, to be “Richard V. Piacentini Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
