WHEREAS, the Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT) has been under the stewardship of Kristen Michaels, its Executive Director since 2015, who has worked diligently to bring together the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding municipalities to identify common public policy challenges, coordinate policies and public works, and advocate for collective change on behalf of Allegheny County's urban core; and,
WHEREAS, under Kristen's leadership, CONNECT has addressed policy issues including the opioid epidemic, water and sewer management and regionalization, emergency medical service provision and funding, transit oriented development, energy efficiency, blight and abandonment, and infrastructure repair and coordination; and,
WHEREAS, born and raised in Pittsburgh and educated at Miami University in Ohio, Kristen began her career working in public relations before making the shift to the nonprofit sector.
WHEREAS, Kristen has received numerous awards for her outstanding work and leadership, including being chosen as one of 40 urban change-makers honored at the Next City Vanguard Conference in New Orleans and being named one of The Incline's Under 40 Community Leaders.
WHEREAS, she is the co-founder of For Good PGH in 2016; a non-profit that develops and implements initiatives that promote diversity and inclusivity, and creates positive experiences for underserved populations in the greater Pittsburgh region; and,
WHEREAS, Kristen will be stepping down as the Executive Director of CONNECT at the end of this year to focus on the administration of her nonprofit initiatives. She currently resides in Edgewood with her husband, Greg, and her two children, Lucy and Romana; and
