WHEREAS, Mattie Patton was born in North Carolina and has been a resident of the City of Pittsburgh since 1941. She will be honored by friends and relatives on the occasion of her 100th birthday on December 1, 2022; and

WHEREAS, she became the wife of Freeman Patton and the marriage was blessed with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to being a wife and mother, she has been active in church, including White Lily Baptist Church, and civic responsibilities; and,
WHEREAS, during a long and productive lifetime, she has demonstrated in countless ways her dedication to the welfare of others and has earned the respect and affection of people from all walks of life and all ages; and
WHEREAS, she has lived during the most eventful century of this world’s history; and in her quiet way, has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around her during these turbulent years;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Mattie Patton on the occasion of her 100th Birthday, and wish her many more happy, productive years; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Thursday, December 1, 2022 to be “Mattie Patton Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
