WHEREAS, On September 7, 1926, Saint Bede School opened its doors. Named for Saint Bede, also known as the Venerable Bede - an 8th century English monk, author and scholar who wrote the first complete history of England and whose most famous quote is “I have always delighted either to learn, or to teach, or to write.”; and,
WHEREAS, Saint Bede School has built a legacy of preparing students for higher education and beyond, with a rich curriculum, nurturing environment and dedication to our core values of faith, family, community and service. Over the years, the heart of the building has remained the same, but additions have been made, including a gymnasium in 2000 and Science, Art and Stream classrooms in 2017. Now, as part of the Pittsburgh East Regional Catholic Elementary Schools, Saint Bede continues to grow and serve the community; and,
WHEREAS, Saint Bede’s mission is achieving educational excellence that flows from the belief that each child is a unique human being endowed by God with special gifts. This school believes that each child should be able to develop these gifts and to participate in a learning environment that promotes love of God, love of neighbor and love of self. And that a truly Catholic-Christian education, aids in the development of responsible persons who will make meaningful contributions to a faith community and to an interdependent world; and,
WHEREAS, Saint Bede’s core beliefs are that each student is a living expression of God’s love and is intrinsically good and deserving of unconditional respect from teachers and one another. Each student is unique, has special abilities & talents, and it is the duty of the school to provide exceptional academic opportunities appropriate for each child.
