WHEREAS; in the wake of tragedy, Pittsburghers with warm hearts and outstretched arms always rise to the occasion; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, September 23, 2005, the Pittsburgh community will band together at Mellon Arena for a concert benefiting the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, the concert is being coordinated by P.L.E.A.S.E., Pittsburgh Lends Emergency and Savings Efforts, a group composed of civic, business and media organizations, as well as concerned musicians and individuals, and countless others who are supplying lighting, sound, production, and planning services to assist in this effort; and
WHEREAS, SMG and Mellon Arena have donated the concert venue and free parking in Mellon Arena lots, and outstanding performers such as The Clarks, Rusted Root, Donnie Iris, Poverty Neck Hillbillies, Joe Grushecky, Bill Deasy, Good Brother Earl, BE Taylor, Crave, Margot B, and other surprise guests have donated their services for the concert; and
WHEREAS, Ticketmaster will be handling ticket sales and is waiving its fee, with reserved seating at $20.00 and general admission at $10.00; and
WHEREAS, P.L.E.A.S.E was formed in response to the Responding To Hurricane Katrina Campaign of the American Red Cross, with 20% of the proceeds of the concert earmarked for the South Western Pennsylvania Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help local families who have suffered losses; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes P.L.E.A.S.E., the American Red Cross, the musicians and Pittsburgh celebrities, and all of the supporters of the fabulous benefit concert scheduled for September 23, 2005 at the Mellon Arena.
