Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the 32 years of outstanding service of Louise Brown to the Shadyside Hospital Foundation; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 23, 2024, to be "Louise Brown Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Louise Brown has been the esteemed leader of the Shadyside Hospital Foundation for 32 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, a graduate of Chatham College and University of Pittsburgh, was the first woman to serve as director of Pittsburgh’s Department of Parks and Recreation and served for 20 years before coming to the Shadyside Hospital Foundation; and,

 

WHEREAS, through Louise Brown’s friendly but strong and effective leadership, the Shadyside Hospital Foundation has enhanced every patient’s care and comfort in untold ways; and,

 

WHEREAS, under Ms. Brown’s leadership, the Shadyside Hospital Foundation has given well over $150 million to Shadyside Hospital; and,

 

WHEREAS, during Louise’s tenure as Executive Director, numerous initiatives have been established. Such as the Competitive Research Fund, the William M. Cooper Endowment for the Department of Medicine, and the Japanese Garden; and,

 

WHEREAS, under her leadership, the Shadyside Hospital Foundation led fundraising to build the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, raising $45 million; and,

 

WHEREAS, Louise directed the publication of The Voice of UPMC Shadyside magazine for more than three decades; and,

 

WHEREAS, Louise Brown will be stepping aside from her role as Executive Director of the Shadyside Hospital Foundation after more than three decades; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the 32 years of outstanding service of Louise Brown to the Shadyside Hospital Foundation; and, 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 23, 2024, to be “Louise Brown Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
