WHEREAS, Patrick Murphy, son of Robert R. Murphy Jr. and Deborah Murphy, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on December 5, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, roughly only 5 percent of youth earn the Eagle Scout Award, which is the highest rank in Scouting based on years of performances in the areas of responsibility, community, leadership, service and outdoor skills; and
WHEREAS, for Patrick’s final project to obtain Eagle Scout, he led a group of 15 volunteers for a week restoring a water damaged wall within Ascension Roman Catholic Church's CCD building and repainting the basement walls, totaling about 840-man hours of work; and,
WHEREAS, Patrick belongs to Troop 66 of Sheraden where he started scouting at the age of 6 as a Tiger Cub Scout in pack 66. He earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouts, at the age of 11 and became a Boy Scout where he has held the positions of a Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and his current position of Scribe; and,
WHEREAS, Patrick is involved in Bots IQ team and the First Technology Challenge team at Pittsburgh Science and Technology School and plans on attending the University of Pittsburgh in the fall of 2018, where he will be studying mechanical engineering; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Eagle Scout Patrick Murphy for his outstanding achievement of attaining the rank of Eagle Scout; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 19, 2018, to be “Patrick Murphy Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
