WHEREAS, in 2001, the Weed and Seed Task Force consisting of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Detectives in conjunction with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Pittsburgh office (DEA) formed a partnership for the purpose of using unconventional methods of investigating illegal drug activity in the various target areas ; and,
WHEREAS, between 2001 and March of 2011, this partnership has seized $5,152,476 in currency; $3,000,000 worth of property; $243,000 worth of jewelry; in addition, 51 vehicles and 139 firearms were taken; and,
WHEREAS, during that same period the Weed and Seed Task force, together with agents from the DEA, seized 20.5 kilos of Heroin; 312.5 Kilos of Powder Cocaine; 4 Kilos of Crack Cocaine; 1,273 pounds of Marijuana, and 1,235 Ecstasy which together had a wholesale value of $13,603,200; and,
WHEREAS, the endeavors of the Weed and Seed Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration are unprecedented and resulted in numerous dangerous drug offenders, some of whom have been involved in homicides and aggravated assaults, removed from the City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods and surrounding communities creating a safer environment; and,
WHEREAS, the efforts and dedication of the detectives and agents have made a significant and positive impact in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and recognize Detectives Brian Daley, Dale Ford, Eric Harpster, Victor Joseph, currently Lieutenant Joseph, Robert Kavals, Dorian Merlina, Michael Molitaris, Matthew Truesdell, Fred Woodard and Sergeant John Fisher and we would also like to commend and recognize Assistant Special Agent in Charge Gary Davis from the DEA, Pittsburgh Office; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 5, 2011, to be "Weed and Seed Task Force Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
