WHEREAS, Karmiel and the Misgav Region of Israel became Pittsburgh's Sister City on May 23, 2006, in ceremonies in Pittsburgh City Council attended by Mayor Bob O'Connor, nine Pittsburgh City Council Members, Mayor Adi Eldar, Deputy Mayor Hannah Koval and Deputy Mayor Baruch Rosen; and,

WHEREAS, Karmiel and Misgav became Pittsburgh's 15^th Sister City following a ten year relationship with Pittsburgh's Jewish community and the United Jewish Federation's Partnership 2000 project; and,

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Jewish Community stands in solidarity with its Israeli friends through a vast volunteer base who work tirelessly to enhance Jewish life and continuity both here and in Israel by promoting tolerance, mutual understanding and the sharing of resources; and,

WHEREAS, conflict in the Middle East has escalated and Karmiel and Misgav have been under continued rocket attack; and,
