Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Allegheny CleanWays on its 25th anniversary as a model of persistence, collaboration, and innovation in tackling the long-term challenges of litter, illegal dumping, and waste reduction, and celebrates the organization's ongoing contributions to the vitality of our region; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the September 18, 2025, as "Allegheny CleanWays Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Allegheny CleanWays was founded in 2000 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to engaging and empowering people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering across Allegheny County; and,

WHEREAS, for twenty-five years, Allegheny CleanWays has empowered neighbors across the region to take direct action in protecting and restoring the places we call home, reminding us that environmental stewardship begins in our own backyards; and,

WHEREAS, since 2000, Allegheny CleanWays and its collaborative partnerships have removed more than 7 million pounds of debris, including more than 50,000 tires, from vacant lots, wooded hillsides, alleyways, roadsides, streams, and riverbanks. Each year hundreds of volunteers work to remove trash from the landscape to improve community health and vitality; and,

WHEREAS, the organization's work has not only transformed neglected lots, wooded hillsides, stairways, and waterways into healthier, safer spaces, but has also inspired a culture of care and responsibility in our neighborhoods; and,

WHEREAS, through its commitment to hands-on cleanup, public education, and grassroots collaboration, Allegheny CleanWays has cultivated a network of volunteers and leaders who recognize the shared responsibility of maintaining a thriving environment; and,

WHEREAS, the leadership of Allegheny CleanWays in promoting environmental stewardship, civic engagement, and community resilience enrich the quality of life for all residents of Allegheny County.
