Title: WHEREAS, on Friday, May 4th, 2007, Catholic Charities is hosting the 25th Bishop's Annual Dinner, to be hosted by Reverend Paul J. Bradley, DD, MSW, Diocesan Administrator/Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh; and WHEREAS, founded in 1910, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh is dedicated to championing the dignity of the person, improving quality of life, advocating for the social good of all families and providing the necessary assistance to realize everyone's full potential; and WHEREAS, in the 2005-2006 Fiscal Year, Catholic Charities assisted over 96,000 people through its various programs and services; and WHEREAS, some of these programs include counseling and bereavement services, parenting, adoption, foster care and child care services, refugee resettlement, elderly services, residential services for homeless individuals and drug and alcohol counseling; and WHEREAS, the 25th Bishop's Annual Dinner is honoring Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl by renaming the Caritas "...

WHEREAS, founded in 1910, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh is dedicated to championing the dignity of the person, improving quality of life, advocating for the social good of all families and providing the necessary assistance to realize everyone's full potential; and
 
WHEREAS, in the 2005-2006 Fiscal Year, Catholic Charities assisted over 96,000 people through its various programs and services; and

WHEREAS, the 25th Bishop's Annual Dinner is honoring Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl by renaming the Caritas "Flame of Hope Award" the "Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl Flame of Hope Award," in recognition of his eighteen years of service; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's Caritas Award Recipients are:
·      Katherine D. Freyvogel, President of Oakland Catholic
·      David M. O'Brien, Executive Vice President of Government Services at Highmark
·      The Most Reverend Donald W. Wuerl, S.T.D., Archbishop of Washington, Archdiocese of Washington.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks Catholic Charities for its dedication to the community, and congratulates this year's Caritas Award Recipients; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 4, 2007, "Catholic Charities Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
