Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend artist Jim West, his historical consultants and the board and staff of the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation for creating this work of public art, bringing to light the history and significance behind it, and providing a worthy new landmark attraction for the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim October 25, 2006, "Point of View Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, an original sculpture called Point Of View, commemorating an historic meeting between George Washington and Seneca leader Guyasuta in October of 1770, has been created through the efforts of artist Jim West and the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation; and
 
WHEREAS, the two men represented in the sculpture actually met twice in this region and their actions profoundly impacted Pittsburgh and the surrounding area; and
 
WHEREAS, the two men held differing points of view on the fate of the region, yet remained on friendly terms following their meeting in 1770; and
 
WHEREAS, on October 25, 2006, this sculpture will be unveiled and dedicated on a prominent overlook on western Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington/Duquesne Heights, forming a new attraction to the Grand View Pennsylvania Scenic Byway and Byway Park; and
 
WHEREAS, the sculpture itself and the history it represents should spark conversations about how Pittsburgh and America came into being; and
 
WHEREAS, this contribution to the Grand View Scenic Byway will encourage other such informative and aesthetic attractions along this roadway to benefit residents and visitors alike; and
 
WHEREAS, the fundraising associated with the unveiling of the Point of View sculpture will further benefit the Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights communities, the City of Pittsburgh, the Grand View Scenic Byway and the region.
