Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Pittsburgh commends the Smith family for standing on faith and love which has carried them throughout the years and may it continue to strengthen them in years to come; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, August 1, 2015, to be "Smith Family Reunion Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The union of Joseph Emory Smith of Pennsylvania and Alice Fredericka Nunley of Virginia commenced before the eyes of God, family and friends at The Peace Abiding Church of Horning. Later through the years this union brought forth God’s loving creation in the name of Clarence, Florence, William, Virginia, Frederick, Kathleen and Ethel Smith. Humbly raised in the cold mine town nicknamed “The Patch,” otherwise known as Horning, PA ; and,

 

WHEREAS, Joseph Emory and Alice Fredericka Smith were founding members of the merger between The Peace Abiding and The Rising Sun Churches to become The Sunrise Baptist Church, located in Horning, PA. The Sunrise Baptist Church stands today over 100 years strong; and,

 

WHEREAS, Joseph Emory Smith was employed in the coal mines of the area but also bravely served his country in the US Army during the World War I era; and,

 

WHEREAS, , We are celebrating our strong family heritage by preserving, enriching and strengthening our family ties, exhibiting our ancestry gifts through spiritual, artistic and culinary expressions of love and respect. We stand on the great shoulders of our ancestors who had unwavering Faith!; and,   

 

WHEREAS, Today, We, the descendants of Joseph Emory Smith & Alice Fredericka Nunley-Smith will gather together on Saturday, August 1, 2015  to  reconnect with family under the motto: “TO HONOR THE PAST, IMPACT THE PRESENT, SHAPE THE FUTURE”; and
