WHEREAS, Michelle Peduto has served 21 years in Catholic Education in Pittsburgh. She plans to retire on June 30 as Secretary and Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh in order to focus on her health and share quality time with her family; and,

WHEREAS, Michelle attended high school in Lincoln, Maine and earned a bachelor's degree from the College of New Jersey, a master's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a master's degree from Duquesne University; and,
WHEREAS, she began her career as a teacher in Fort Dix Elementary School in New Jersey. Over a span of 20 years, her passion for education and leadership took her and her family all over the country; and,
WHEREAS, returning to Pittsburgh, Michelle became a principal at St. Agnes School in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and later became the principal of Carlow Campus School. Her post-secondary career includes work as a U.S. Army Math Instructor and as a Carlow Adjunct professor, where she was awarded the Adjunct Professor of the Year; and,
WHEREAS, Michelle went on to serve as the Director of Educational Programs and Partnerships for the Extra Mile Schools. In 2019, Michelle became the Director of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Pittsburgh; and;
WHEREAS, for the past five years, she has served as the Secretary of Catholic Schools and Superintendent. Michelle Peduto exemplifies a genuine passion for education through her personal educational journey and professional experience in the field; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Michelle Peduto for her dedication to Catholic education, her passion for others and her courage and wish her a happy retirement; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, April 1, 2024 to be “Michelle Peduto Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
