Title: WHEREAS, Mr. Carmen P. Rummo is a pianist, teacher, arranger, composer, and author who began his career with a congenial personality, a solid work ethic, self discipline and a sense of humor which he strove to instill in his students; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rummo studied piano, harmony and music theory under the tutelage of pianist, songwriter and Broadway composer, Harry G. Archer, he also studied with Maurice Dumesnil who was a student of Claude Debussy; and WHEREAS, He continued his study of harmony and theory with Edmund Goering and orchestration and arranging with Max Atkins; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rummo served in the U.S. Army during World War II and gave solo performances in Baltimore Maryland, Richmond Virginia and Philadelphia Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, He became staff pianist for the Mercury Time Radio Show in 1948 and was pianist for the Stanley Theatre Orchestra for thirteen years; and WHEREAS, He served as a member of the faculty of Duquesne University's School of Music...

WHEREAS, Mr. Carmen P. Rummo is a pianist, teacher, arranger, composer, and author who began his career with a congenial personality, a solid work ethic, self discipline and a sense of humor which he strove to instill in his students; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rummo studied piano, harmony and music theory under the tutelage of pianist, songwriter and Broadway composer, Harry G. Archer, he also studied with Maurice Dumesnil who was a student of Claude Debussy; and

WHEREAS, He continued his study of harmony and theory with Edmund Goering and orchestration and arranging with Max Atkins; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rummo served in the U.S. Army during World War II and gave solo performances in Baltimore Maryland, Richmond Virginia and Philadelphia Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, He became staff pianist for the Mercury Time Radio Show in 1948 and was pianist for the Stanley Theatre Orchestra for thirteen years; and

WHEREAS, He served as a member of the faculty of Duquesne University's School of Music from 1958 until 1985 where is students presented him with the "Faculty of the Year" in 1978 and a former student observed that there are two kinds of students, "those who studied with Mr. Rummo and those who wish they had"; and

WHEREAS, Carmen P. Rummo is the author of two piano text books that are in use throughout the world and initiated and designed piano classes at Duquesne University's School of Music where his textbook is still used today as a classroom resource; and

WHEREAS, In 1989 Mr. Rummo received the Distinguished Alumnus award from the South High Alumnus Association and in the same year the Music Teachers National Association awarded him the Emeritus Certificate as a certified teacher of piano; and


NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Mr. Carmen P. Rummo for his many contributions and service to the City of Pittsburgh, his students and colleagues in and out of the music communit...
