WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh Staff Council (Staff Council) was established in 1970 to represent the interests of University of Pittsburgh staff, not otherwise represented by a collective bargaining agreement ; and,
WHEREAS, Staff Council enables discussions to take place among members of upper administration, faculty, and students prior to major decisions being made in order to best represent the interests of staff at the University of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to local interests, Staff Council advocates for the University and the Oakland community at the annual Pitt Day at the state Capitol in Harrisburg; and,
WHEREAS, some examples of accomplishments to date are Paid Parental Leave, Campus Safety Crawl as a way of identifying safety concerns across campus, Prescription delivery from Falk Pharmacy and health benefits provided to domestic partners of staff; and,
WHEREAS, Staff Council supports the professional development and personal engagement of Pitt staff by awarding eligible members the Staff Professional Development Award in honor of Ronald W. Frisch and raises funds for and awards the annual Staff Council Endowed Book Fund Award to children of Pitt staff members; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to advocating for staff, Staff Council volunteers in the community by participating in the annual United Way Day of Caring, collecting food for those less fortunate; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend University of Pittsburgh Staff Council for their commitment to the staff of the University of Pittsburgh and to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, November 27, 2018, to be “University of Pittsburgh Staff Council Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
