Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Buddy Valinsky for his personal and professional achievements, for his commitment and his belief in his students and his team and for being named the Post-Gazette Coach of the Year; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 12, 2016, to be "BUDDY VALINSKY DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, with basketball as part of his DNA, Buddy Valinsky, born and raised in Squirrel Hill, played basketball since he was a child. A graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School in 1978, Buddy was a standout point guard for the Allderdice program. Recognized as one of the top players in Western PA, he was named to the 1978 Roundball Classic and went on to play Division II Basketball at the College of Charleston. His teammates and coaches have described him as having the best skillset, the best understanding of the game and is a team leader, one of the 3 best players to come out of the JCC League in its history; and,

WHEREAS, Buddy Valinsky has been a coach at Allderdice for 9 years. He has coached five 1000 point scorers and a handful of college players in all divisions. In his 4th season of his second stint as Allderdice's coach, he guided his team on an unforgettable journey to its 3 consecutive City League Championship and its first time to the PIAA Class AAAA Final; and,

WHEREAS, under Buddy's coaching, Allderdice finished 28-2, making the Dragons one of the most dominant teams in Southwestern Pennsylvania over the past decade. Buddy's overall record is 159-79. For the last 15 years, Buddy has been a health and physical education teacher at Allderdice; he and his wife, Jane and son, Josh, live in Squirrel Hill; and,

WHEREAS, for his coaching achievements that measured him against all WPIAL and City League Coaches, Buddy Valinsky has been named the 2016 Post-Gazette Coach of the Year; and,
